On June 30, 2025, the Board of Trustees for Newberry County School District met during a special called meeting and unanimously voted to appoint Dr. Chan Anderson as Interim Superintendent. Mrs. Lucy Anne Meetze, Board Chair, stated, “the Board is pleased to welcome Dr. Anderson to Newberry County as our Interim Superintendent. His previous leadership experience will be invaluable as we transition and embark on a new school year. We trust that SDNC will continue on our path to success, and we anticipate great things under his direction. It is critical that we have a steady hand guiding us, and we look forward to collaborating with Dr. Anderson in the coming months as we seek to fill the Superintendent position permanently.”
Dr. Anderson commented, “I am humbled at the opportunity to step in and lead at such a crucial time. I am equally excited to meet our wonderful students, families, educators, leaders and Newberry Community. Thank you to Board Chair Meetze and the entire School Board for the vote of confidence in my leadership and for welcoming me into the Newberry School District Family.”
Dr. Anderson most recently served as Superintendent in Chesterfield County School District, where he was named Interim Superintendent before filling the role permanently. On June 23, SDNC’s Board hired the South Carolina School Boards Association to conduct a search for a permanent Superintendent.
